Civil Service Provides Update on 2020 and 2021 Sheriff’s Promotional Exams and the County Correctional Police Promotional Exams

Today, the New Jersey Civil Service Commission released additional information regarding the Sheriff’s Promotional Exams and the County Correctional Police Promotional Exams.
The Sheriff’s Promotional Exams that were scheduled for May of 2020 will be rescheduled.
Civil Service anticipates announcing the next Sheriff’s Officer Promotional Exam in November 2021 with the test for the new announcement anticipated in May 2022.
The County Correctional Police Promotional Exams that were scheduled for May of 2020 will be rescheduled.
Civil Service anticipates announcing the next County Correctional Police Promotional Exam in November 2021 with the test for the new announcement anticipated in May 2022.
The February 2021 Civil Service Law Enforcement Status Report will contain announcement and promotional exam schedule information. We are hopeful that this report will contain more detailed information.
Please remember, for testing to resume, modifications to the Governor’s Executive Orders that are currently in place would be necessary.

2/8/21 - Update
Civil Service provided additional information for the Sheriff’s promotional exams that were originally scheduled to be administered in May of 2020. Specifically, Civil Service announced the following update:
“Titles/Symbols announced on November 1, 2019 were originally scheduled to be administered in May 2020. We are making plans to tentatively schedule these symbols in 2021, pending Covid-19 protocols.”
While there is no tentative date in their announcement, they did recently announce new exams for Police Chief and Police Deputy Chief that are tentatively scheduled to be administered in September of this year.
We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
