2020 NJ State Police Selection Process to Begin Soon
January 31, 2020 - Posted by Ed Esposito
The 2020 New Jersey State Police will begin accepting applications to become a NJ State Trooper on February 3, 2020. The online application period is open through February 23, 2020. According to the New Jersey State police website, the "applications should be completed via desktop or laptop computer."
The New Jersey state Police utilize a comprehensive selection process. The process begins with an online application, which can be found by clicking here. The next phase in the process is a physical qualification test. This part of the selection process will assess the applicant's ability to complete push ups, sit ups and a 1.5 mile run. There are specific standards for each exercise of the physical qualification test, which are rated using a predetermined "points" system. The physical qualification test standards and the recommended training for this portion of the selection process can be found by clicking here.
Only candidates who pass the physical qualification test will advance to the next phase where a written examination will administered. According to the NJ State Police website, the "written examination will consist of one full day of testing including check-in and breaks." Since the NJ State Police entrance exam is unique to their agency and not the same as the NJ Civil Service Law Enforcement Entrance Exam (LEE), candidates should make sure they prepare for this specific exam.
Candidates who pass the written examination will then have a comprehensive background investigation conducted by the NJ State Police. Once a candidate completes this portion of the selection process, they will proceed to the "candidate review board," which is essentially a detailed interview with personnel from the NJ State Police. After completing this phase of the process, candidates will undergo a medical examination and a psychological examination to determine their fitness for duty, both physically and mentally.
Although the NJ State police utilizes a comprehensive selection process, their website also encourages applicants who failed to successfully complete the process to reapply again in the future.
Many additional details and the minimum qualifications to apply for the NJ State Police can be found by clicking here.
