About ESPOS Test Prep
Captain Ed Esposito
As a top scoring Sergeant, Lieutenant and Captain’s candidate, Captain Ed Esposito established ESPOS Test Prep LLC in 2016 to provide a comprehensive training course for the Sheriff’s Promotional Examination administered by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission. Shortly thereafter, ESPOS joined forces with the Holtz Learning Center and has since been exclusively providing their distinguished programs and classes. In 2017, ESPOS Test Prep expanded its services after receiving an overwhelming number of requests to offer a comprehensive preparation course for Police Sergeants, Lieutenants, Captains, Inspector, Deputy Chief and Chief. After receiving an extensive number of requests, we expanded our offerings in 2018 to include in-service training and Corrections Promotional Review classes. ESPOS also acquired Compass Educational Tools and their distinguished audio library in 2018. Currently, ESPOS is New Jersey's premier law enforcement exam, interview and oral assessment preparation firm that provides unparalleled training programs.
Captain Esposito has consistently achieved a top score on all of his NJ CSC promotional exams beginning with a #2 score out of over 100 tested on his Sergeant’s exam. He then ranked #1 on the 2014 Lieutenant's exam and most recently #1 on the 2016 Captain’s exam. Captain Esposito has also earned the HIGHEST final average in the State and received the HIGHEST written score in the State on his Sergeant, Lieutenant and Captain exams.
Ed is currently assigned to the Special Services Division of the largest Sheriff’s Office in New Jersey where he is the Commanding Officer of the County's Office of Emergency Management, K-9 Unit, Bomb Squad, Motorcycle Section and Vehicle Maintenance Unit. He is also responsible for overseeing the agency's communications infrastructure and the Hostage Negotiation Team. He was previously assigned to the Courts Division, Bureau of Criminal Identification, Detective Bureau, Office of the Chief and Bureau of Narcotics, and has led several special projects for his office including the construction of a new Patrol Headquarters, Emergency Operations Center and modernization of the Bureau of Narcotics Headquarters. Prior to serving at his current agency, Ed was a Corrections Officer with another Sheriff's Office in New Jersey.
He is certified as a police academy instructor and conducts training on incident command, Title 39 and other related topics. Ed has over twenty years of experience conducting in-service training for law enforcement officers from newly-hired officers to executive-level officials on topics ranging from CPR/AED to the Attorney General Guidelines and statutory legal topics. He also has conducted training for the public, lawyers, prosecutors, judges, EMS personnel, firefighters (all ranks) and OEM professionals. He currently has a B.A. in Criminal Justice and is seeking an advance degree in Public Administration. He is also a graduate of the nationally accredited State of N.J. Certified Public Manager (CPM) program administered by the N.J. Civil Service Commission and delivered by Rutgers University-Newark’s School of Public Affairs and Administration and a New Jersey Certified Emergency Manager (NJ CEM).

Deputy Chief Nick Breiner
Nick Breiner, CPM is an Accredited Command Executive who possesses over twenty-five years of law enforcement expertise and currently serves as the Police Director for a City Police Department in New Jersey. As an Acting Deputy Chief, he retired in April 2021 as the Administration Division Commander and Deputy O.E.M. Coordinator for a large Municipal Police Department. Nick was first appointed as a police officer in August 1995 and graduated first in his class at the Essex County Police Academy with a perfect 100 academic average. He scored #1 on the Civil Service Commission’s Sergeant, Lieutenant and Captain exams, and for Police Captain he was RANKED #1 in the State, which included a PERFECT SCORE on the oral portion of his exam.
His previous assignments include: the Patrol Division, Traffic Bureau, Property and Evidence Unit, Community Policing/Bicycle Unit, Commanding Officer of the Professional Standards and Training Bureau, and Commander of the Emergency Services Unit. Additionally, Nick served as a full-time police academy staff member, supervising firearms instructor, and as the department's accreditation manager.
Nick received his B.A. in Political Science, with highest honors, from Rutgers University and his M.A. in Human Resources Training and Development from Seton Hall University. He is a graduate of the Senior Executives in State & Local Government program at the Harvard-Kennedy School of Government and was a member of the IACP Professional Standards, Ethics and Image Committee. Nick is a New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police Accredited Command Executive and in February 2017 the NJSACOP awarded him a fellowship to study at the UK College of Policing in England. He is also a graduate of the nationally accredited State of N.J. Certified Public Manager (CPM) program administered by the N.J. Civil Service Commission and delivered by Rutgers University-Newark’s School of Public Affairs and Administration.
Nick brings over twenty years of instructional expertise to ESPOS Test Prep including service as an Adjunct Professor with a New Jersey based college and extensive instructor experience at a Police Academy in New Jersey. He also managed and directed police, military and civilian training for the Spartan Group. Nick teaches various blocks in our comprehensive course and specializes in Attorney General guidelines and in oral preparation for Captain, Deputy Chief and Chief candidates.

Deputy Chief Michael C. Corcoran, Jr. Esq.
Deputy Chief Michael C. Corcoran, Jr. retired from a large Municipal Police Department in 2016 after a distinguished 25-year career. Throughout his career, he served in all divisions of the agency. After retiring, Mike was appointed as the Police Commissioner in a City located in New York and was later appointed as the Commissioner of Public Safety where he commanded all emergency services during his tenure. In September of 2018, Mike was appointed as the Public Safety Director of a Town in New Jersey where he is responsible for the oversight of town's Police, Fire and Emergency Management personnel.
He is a past #1 SCORING CANDIDATE, most recently earning a PERFECT SCORE on the Police Senior-Level Chief/Deputy Chief/Inspector’s exam as well as one of the HIGHEST SCORES IN STATE HISTORY. He is a past instructor, curriculum developer and test question writer for New Jersey Civil Service Commission’s courses.

Deputy Chief Sean Schwindt
Deputy Chief Sean Schwindt retired after twenty-five years of service with a large Municipal Police Department where he served as the highest-ranking sworn officer in the department and was the Chief Law Enforcement Executive and officer in charge. Sean began his career in law enforcement as a corrections officer with a State Department in New Jersey and was later appointed as a Municipal Police Officer in January 1998.
He is a past TOP SCORING CANDIDATE and has achieved a #1 score on the New Jersey Civil Service Commission's examinations for Lieutenant and Captain.
In January of 2018, Sean was appointed to the rank of Deputy Chief and has served in many different capacities throughout his tenure. Captain Joe Hefferon
Captain Joe Hefferon has over 25 years of law enforcement experience and is retired from the largest Sheriff’s Office in New Jersey serving last as the Chief of Staff in the Office of the Chief. Throughout his career he was assigned to the Bureau of Criminal Identification and the Bureau of Narcotics. As a certified police academy instructor, he conducted a wide variety of training including instructor training and was responsible for the training of all newly promoted Sergeants, Lieutenants and Captains.
Captain Hefferon is the author of The Seventh Level, a personal development program, and other published titles including two titles that will be released in 2017. In addition, he is a training consultant specializing in leadership development, terrorism, active shooter, tactical awareness and test preparation.
Captain Hefferon has previously achieved a #1 score, including the HIGHEST SCORE IN THE STATE and is a graduate of the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development School.

Captain Jose Rivera
Captain Jose Rivera retired with more than twenty-five years of service with a large Sheriff’s Office in New Jersey. Prior to his retirement, he served as the Administrative Captain responsible for Training, Accreditation, Special Services and Civil Process. He has a wide range of experience having worked in every section of the Sheriff’s Office to include, the Warrant/Fugitive Section, Criminal Investigations Section, Court Operations Section, and the Administration Section. Prior to joining the Sheriff’s Office, Jose served four years in the United States Air Force.
Jose is a graduate of the Rutgers Certified Public Manager (CPM) Program and has been a certified Police Training Commission Instructor since 2011. He graduated from the prestigious Northeast Counterdrug Training Center Polygraph Program in 2010 and has been a certified Police Polygraph Examiner since.
Captain Rivera was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2015 after achieving a #1 SCORE on the New Jersey Civil Service Commission’s 2014 Sheriff’s Sergeant exam. Jose achieved a #1 SCORE on the State's first ever all essay format Sheriff’s Lieutenant examination in 2017. He earned the HIGHEST SCORE IN THE STATE and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 2018. In 2021, Jose again achieved a #1 SCORE on his Captain's exam.
Jose is a graduate of the Rutgers Certified Public Manager (CPM) Program and has been a certified Police Training Commission Instructor since 2011. Larry E. Holtz, Esquire
Our subject matter expert, Larry E. Holtz, earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice from Temple University, graduating Summa Cum Laude. He earned his Juris Doctorate from Temple University School of Law in 1989, earning the President’s Scholar Award. Mr. Holtz served the City of Atlantic City as a police officer, detective, sergeant and police attorney, where he earned over fifteen departmental commendations. He later served as an Assistant County Prosecutor and New Jersey Deputy Attorney General. During his tenure at the Attorney General’s Office, he worked in the Law Enforcement, Legal Affairs Section. He also co-authored the State’s Charging Manual, various Attorney General Guidelines and was the Executive Editor of the Division of Criminal Justice Law Enforcement Reporter.
Mr. Holtz has also served as a municipal prosecutor for three towns in South Jersey, the Director of the Cape May County Police Academy, and as adjunct professor at Widener School of Law and Rowan University. Mr. Holtz practices administrative law and procedure, with a specialty in police administrative matters. He is a member of the bar in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and the District of Columbia. |
