What is on the 2018/2019 Police Sergeant's Exam?
The exam will be a combination of multiple-choice and video based scenarios on legal topics, directives and other areas. The "potential source material" for the 2018/2019 Police Sergeant's Exam includes:
The written portion of the exam will be in multiple-choice format and will consist of fact patterns and stimulus material based in part on the "potential source material." Some questions will be scenario based and others will be conceptual items that examine a candidate's ability to select the best or worst option available.
The video-based portion of the exam is made up of a series of short videos where each candidate is asked questions based on what they have learned during each video segment. Candidates are told to assume that they are a Police Sergeant for the video-based portion of the exam and are then presented with video segments that will relay information as they would in the "real-world." After each segment, candidates are provided with questions to answer based on the video and in some cases based on the "potential source material." The questions for this portion of the exam also examine the ability of the candidate to determine what is required or not required after viewing the video. Finally, the video-based portion of the sergeant's exam may also test the judgement of those taking the exam by asking what is essential or not essential with respect to each video segment.
